A church wedding is a joy filled and magnificent experience. Symbolic traditions are usually included in the ceremony selecting the right music for each ceremony can help create an ideal atmosphere that will be remembered by you, your family and friends and all the guests well after the wedding day itself has concluded. This makes your song selection an incredibly important facet of your church wedding ceremony which should never be under estimated in the effect it can have and the ceremony’s success.Generally, a traditional church wedding is a solemn and quiet celebration. However, you can still be able to make it a happy and joyous event by avoiding hassle and stressful situations. Consider the following:Set Your Budget
The amount of money you want to spend for the musical aspect is extremely important. You cannot plan the details without taking this into account. Like food and venue of reception, music is a significant part of a wedding. Before proceeding with the rest of the plans, think about how much you should spend for the musical program. Write down in a piece of paper your allotted budget for the music and the musicians.
Choose the most appropriate songs
Most churches are particularly very strict with secular and non-secular music. In general, secular music is prohibited. To avoid rejections from the church’s officials, it would be wise to consult them first regarding their standards of what is acceptable and what is not.
Selecting great music is not enough. The church usually provides vocalist and instrumentalists with a fee. However, if you are not satisfied with their performance, and you should hear them sing live before making a decision, you can always hire music providers from the outside. In this way, you are assured that the ones that you will hire are capable of singing your chosen pieces.
Call a friend
If you could have someone who can supervise these things for you that would be great. You might be busy with other wedding preparations to take care of the musical aspect, having someone to look things over for you would be a big help. Make sure that this person is someone you trust to follow your direct instructions and will always be working towards you getting the music that you always dreamt of. Be clear with instructions and regularly checking on their progress is a good way to prevent problems, stress and heart ache closer to the wedding day.
Juncture simply means the connection between two notes, rests, phrases, section or even movements. It is the relationship between two such elements. Unfortunately, however, in music, it could be rather overlooked. In the example of a musician performing a sonata (a musical composition of 3 or 4 movements of contrasting forms), the question might arise of how would that performer transition from one movement to the next. To do so inconsistently would seem sloppy. This is why juncture is an important factor in music.Lack of proper juncture would result in jerky motions, which would create an unmusical result. Any choppy, uncontrolled movement is considered taboo in music. These could be likened to sharp-edged triangular shapes, to visualize. If you imagine a circular motion, it would connote a smoother movement, which is more desirable, and more graceful, hence more musical. There is a clue to achieving good juncture in music. If a musician calculates his rests or is getting ready for the other movement (section) to play, his body motion and gestures before sounding or touching the instrument will influence quality of tone. Thus, there are practices for improving juncture in music. The most popular one is to practice the motion of picking up a mug of coffee to drink it and putting it down. Grab a mug (whether it is full or empty is not important). Slowly raise it towards your lips as if you were drinking from it and then lower it down. You will notice that your movements are not as smooth as they could be. They are somewhat choppy. Now, this time, raise the mug again but with a much more even and consistent motion. From start to finish, the cycle should be one fluid motion. Practice this over and over again until you master it. Then go back to your instrument, play and notice the difference. Here is the other exercise. Listen to a piece of music. Grab a small object, such as a ball. Then transfer it by slowly swinging your arm across to your other hand, keeping this consistent with the rhythm of the music. Then reverse the motion with that hand back to the other one. Continue doing this back and forth until you do it smoothly and consistently. These exercises will help your sense of juncture and connectedness to all of the various components of the musical piece. This is all part of a philosophy known as “movement education” or “body in performance”, developed by Dr. Alexandra Pierce, Professor Emeritus, University of Redlands, whom I studied under. Movement Education embodies the several aspects of music (such as phrasing) in a physical, kinetic form away from the instrument. The results are a much more meaningful performance, as music becomes much more sensational, using one’s entire existence and not just one sense, hearing.
I am a musician living in Nashville which has been referred to as “Music City” for many years. I have noticed that there is a lot of great talent performing on the local music scene, but for some reason unknown to me, the industry has decided to not to acknowledge them. It bothers and saddens me that there are all these bands and artists working so hard and drawing crowds, but do not even get a nod from the people on Music Row.I have seen many bands come and go. I have seen talent fade away due to frustration and disappointment that their efforts go unrewarded or unnoticed. Instead of looking for real talent, record labels and management companies started signing singer out of open mike nights and karaoke bars. Their reason at the time is that they are cute men or pretty women with a good voice and they can mold them into what they want them to be and market them however they wish to. As time went on, those singers had fallen by the wayside due to the fact that they just didn’t have the stamina and fortitude to handle the hard work that comes with being in the music business.I have also heard the whining and complaining from the folks on Music Row when some other management company or record label from other areas or states sign these artists out of Nashville and promote them so they can begin a career and bring in more revenue for the label as well. Why do they complain? They had their shot at these performers, but decided to ignore them. Now that they’re no longer available and somebody else picked them up, they’re upset.I am very sorry folks, but if you’d pay attention to your local talent this would not be an issue. Being a musician and paying my dues several times over I know exactly what I’m speaking about. There are still many great bands and artists working on the music scene today that draw big crowds and are creating a large following and fan base. The industry needs to sit up and take notice or stop complaining when someone else reaps the rewards of the talent that they signed to their label. This is not about my ranting or “sour grapes”, this is about injustices that we all have been subjected to over the years. This is “Music City” people! Let’s take it back and make it great again.
So many years ago America came out with a few great bands like Green Day, The Offspring, and Blink 182. These bands did a fantastic job earning awards like best rock group, best new rock group, best music video, best rock album and much more! Seeing how popular they were, Canada fired back with bands like Sum 41 and Simple plan. Both were great bands that played the same style of music as Blink 182, The Offspring and Green Day. So the contest began as America introduced My Chemical Romance, Jet and Linkin Park who were also very successful especially Linkin Park who won favorite alternative artist for 3 different years. Soon after quality of the contest started to degrade when America produced Miley Cyrus, the teen pop idol. This started the era of mainstream, low quality “pop” music. After Miley Cyrus, Canada brought out everything it had to come out with Justin Bieber, the biggest attack on American society since the 9/11, brainwashing millions of helpless young girls. America’s next attempt failed greatly when we put out Rebecca Black… and I won’t even go there… So the next and final attack to date was Canada bombing us with Carly Rae Jepson and her sad excuse for a song “Call Me Maybe.” Only God can save our music now. This endless battle between countries used to bring wonderful music to the world but now it just destroys the industry by creating music aimed at people that will like a certain group because of how they look or how they act. It isn’t about the music anymore, it’s about who’s posing for the photo shoots, who gets the most girls, and who has the best hair. The world of music is more like the world of fashion and appearance. This needs to stop because with all of these new pop artists that don’t work hard at all to get where they are there are less opportunities for the small bands and artists that play in bars and small joints. Those smaller bands have been forced out of business and therefore were without a job. This new look on music also causes already successful and good bands to change their style to meet the growing fan base for pop. By doing this we are getting less and less quality music from bands that were once great. Come on America and Canada, fight with better music and do it so everyone understands that music is not the art of being “cool”, it is the art of sound.
